I have the honour to forward copy of a letter from two German directors ofthe Hongkong registered Central and North China Godowns and Press Packing Company, Limited.

This company is and always has been entirely devoid of any genuine British interest and the latest share retum contains not one British or Allied name.

The land on which the premises are built is registered at this office, probably in order to cover advances, now paid off from a British Insurance Company.

From the point of British interest it is in my opinion desirable that this Company should cease to have any pre- -tence to be other than an enemy concern.

Prosecution under the impending Order in

Council could be of the company only and distress on nonpayment

of the consequent fines could not be levied on the premises except

by force. Transfer of the land can of course be refused during the

war; but that will not affect its proceedings.

I have the honour to suggest that the most dignified course would be to strike the Company off the register without going through the farce of legal liquidation, you the ground that the British Courts have now no jurisdiction over any

member of the company.
